I’ll never understand how, as adults, we still allow random people to make us cry or feel bad about ourselves simply because they make a negative comment about us.
You are, in fact, a bigger person. You know that. Some men tell me I’m too old or that they wouldn’t date me because I’m a single mom. Do I care? No. I am older, and I am a single mom. Those are facts, not insults.
Mean people will always exist. You can’t give them that kind of power over you. Well, you can, but the reality is that we all experience criticism, judgment, and rejection at some point in our lives.
You’re really pretty, and you obviously take pride in your appearance. I’m sorry he hurt your feelings, but he’s literally a nobody. Why should his opinion carry so much weight?
When someone criticizes me, the first thing I ask myself is, “Is it true?” If it is, I decide whether it’s something I want or need to work on. If it’s not true, then I simply don’t care about their opinion.
Not everyone is going to find us attractive, agree with us, or even like us. And that’s okay. Their opinions don’t determine our worth.
You’ll never be able to control what other people think, say, or do. The only thing you can control is how you choose to respond.
