Kahlil Gibran (1883-1931) was a Lebanese-American poet, writer and artist whose work became influential in both Arabic and English literature. Born in Bsharri, Lebanon, he moved with his family to the United States in 1895 and later studied art in Boston and Paris. Gibran became particularly known for his philosophical and spiritual writing. His most famous work, The Prophet, was published in 1923 and presents a series of poetic reflections on subjects including love, marriage, freedom, work, joy, sorrow and death. The book eventually became an international literary phenomenon and has been translated into numerous languages. He was also an accomplished visual artist. His paintings and drawings were strongly influenced by Symbolism, while his writing often drew upon Lebanese cultural traditions, spirituality and his experiences as an immigrant in America. The quote featured in this post is commonly attributed to Gibran. Interestingly, the wording and source have been debated: some references associate it with The Broken Wings, while other quote references describe it as a variation of an aphorism attributed to Gibran. Gibran died in New York City on April 10, 1931, but his writing continues to be widely read for its reflections on love, humanity, spirituality and self-understanding. #quotes #deepquotes #philosophy #asthetic #artinline
