Much of the modern Thai vernacular (especially central Thai) was absorbed directly from the Khmer language, and all of the Royal language is from Khmer (Rajasab - TH/ Reachasap - KH). You’re correct, Lao continues to maintain distinct language and needs to be safeguarded from Thai-washing. Bridge is a direct copy of the Khmer word, “Spean” as well. They cannot pronounce their /ea/ sounds which we have a lot in Khmer, so they change it to /aa/ instead to “spaan”

Thankyou! For this post and to clarify the similarities between Esan and Lao because Thai-Esan won’t except that they speak Lao but they claimed to be Thai and trying to distance themselves from Laos but what they don’t get is that Thai people don’t even like them Esan and calling them low-life animals
