Oh…my ped said we don’t have to wake him once he’s birth weight. And he’s been fine. Sleeping 8 hrs since 2mo

We always tell our mamas to continue waking every 3 hours through the night until they are back to birth weight. Once they are back to birth weight, feed on the night schedule they set but aim for 6-8 feedings in 24 hours so if they eat more frequently during the day, it’s not a big deal for them to take longer breaks at night

I’ve never had to wake either of my kids to eat, but I was told that once they are back up to birth weight and gaining weight it’s fine if they sleep all night.

My baby has been going 4.5-5 hours since she was 5 or 6 days old. And she’s a chunk. I think all these rules are silly.

This is very Elizabeth Holmes coded. They ‘can’ but do they?

You don’t need to wake baby if they have met their birthweight. (Unless other specific medical precautions are needed) So you can sleep as long as they sleep for but if they wake more frequently then that’s within normal too and it’s not going to give you more sleep by not feeding them.

My pediatricians rule of thumb is once the baby is 12lbs (usually around 3 months or so) you can let them sleep, and to feed if they wake themself

As long as baby is gaining weight and healthy never wake baby to feed. They will wake up when they are hungry [Tears of joy]

Good info. But I feel it will be very confusing for parents.

this is wayyyy over complicated. We’ve always been told they are back above their birth weight you do not have to wake them anymore

Both of my children I never had to wake to feed. They let me know every two hours they were hungry. I hope one day I can have a baby that sleeps 😂

If they wake up fed them. After they get back to birth weight you don’t wake them.

I started weaning night feeds at 6 months. I starts offering water, which she didn’t want, lol I also didn’t make eye contact or talk to her at night. I made waking up at night pointless for her.

I never woke my baby up to feed her! I was always taught not to wake a baby up, so I let her sleep. She 14 now, doing just fine. She also slept through the night at a month old.

I think the “rules” are all so silly. Babies are going to do baby things like waking frequently to feed over night. It’s brutal, but it passes. Every baby is different rules don’t matter

Ignoring all the doctors orders if your kid is out of healthy weight sleeps wakes up eat goes back to sleep wakes up and eats again and is gaining weight. It doesn’t matter how long they sleep. Because both sleep and eating are the two most important parts of growth.

Hi 17 year pediatrician here 👋 if your baby is asleep don’t question it. Get on your knees and praise the lord for every hour you get over 3
