These asylums were actually prisons, they just didn’t call them that. Inside, they were much, much worse than prisons, there were no such thing as human rights and patients were at the complete mercy of all around them due to the neglect & lack of safeguarding from the staff. The type of people who would have worked in these places were not in the job to help these voiceless prisoners. Staff were basically given carte Blanche do to as they pleased with any one of them, down to & including medical mutilation. The suffering within these places were magnitudes worse than we can fathom.
