lol, their is what we call CC and CV in battery charging. and each battery has C rating, depending on its chemistry and manufacturer specs.

used this for a very small solar generator 3s 5p, and it actually worked well also, you are right about the efficiency of those bulk converters. but there are very cheap pwm charge controllers now for around 5k. but I like how the charge controller takes up less space
