My vote was about far more than being a Democrat or Republican. It was a vote AGAINST corruption, cruelty, and the direction of this country. 1. Trump and his administration: The corruption, self-enrichment, abuse of power, and the prioritization of wealthy political insiders over everyday Americans. 2. Our tax dollars: Billions sent to Israel while Americans struggle to afford housing, food, healthcare, and basic necessities. Why are we funding another country’s priorities while neglecting our own people? 3. ICE, Border Patrol, and local law enforcement: The targeting of hardworking immigrants, the use of local police to carry out immigration enforcement, inhumane detention conditions, inadequate healthcare, and, most appallingly, the treatment of innocent children and families. Not everyone being detained is a dangerous criminal, regardless of the narrative being pushed. 4. The economy: Outrageous prices for groceries, housing, insurance, healthcare, and everyday living. I work in healthcare and am fortunate to have excellent benefits. Millions of hardworking Americans are not so fortunate. 5. Iran, Gaza, and foreign policy: The devastation in Gaza, the displacement of Palestinians, the conflict with Iran, and the unnecessary risks to our young servicemen and women stationed around the world. Their lives and their families matter! 6. The erosion of our values: The attacks on human rights, the normalization of racism and hatred, the lack of accountability, and the political division destroying families and communities. I was a Republican for most of my life. Donald Trump and the MAGA movement changed that. I have family and friends who support MAGA, but I cannot understand or accept the cruelty, misinformation, and lack of compassion that I see being normalized. My parents and grandparents came to this country seeking opportunity and a better life. I know what they endured. To deny others that same opportunity is heartbreaking. My vote was for humanity, accountability, decency, democracy, and a government that works for ALL Americans—not just the wealthy and powerful. And I don’t care whether the corruption comes from Republicans or Democrats. Wrong is wrong!
