🦁 A LITTLE BROTHERLY LOVE – KAI & JABU ❤️ Sometimes the simplest moments tell the most beautiful stories. Our two lion brothers, Kai and Jabu, are enjoying a peaceful moment together. Jabu is stretched out in front, taking his time grooming himself, carefully cleaning his paws and keeping his coat in tip-top condition, while Kai enjoys having his brother close by. 🐾 Did you know that grooming is an important part of a lion’s daily life? Lions use their rough tongues to remove loose hair, dirt and parasites from their coats. But grooming is about more than just keeping clean. Social grooming, also known as allogrooming, helps strengthen bonds, build trust and maintain relationships between members of a pride. ❤️ But there is another part of Kai and Jabu’s story that is important to understand. Both brothers were born in captivity and were rescued from the hunting industry. They will never experience the freedom of roaming the African wilderness as wild lions should. Their circumstances were decided long before they had any choice. Lions like Kai and Jabu cannot simply be released into the wild. Captive-born lions often lack the survival skills needed to hunt, establish territories and live independently. Releasing them without the right circumstances would put their lives, as well as the lives of wild animals and people, at risk. That is why our responsibility is to provide them with lifelong care, appropriate nutrition, enrichment, space and the opportunity to express their natural behaviours. We cannot change the beginning of their story, but we can make sure the rest of it is filled with safety, dignity and care. And sometimes, that means simply watching two brothers enjoy the sunshine, taking care of themselves and each other. ❤️ Not born to be displayed. Rescued to be protected. 🦁 Come and meet our rescued lions at Felidae Centre and learn more about their individual stories. #FelidaeCentre #RescuedNotExploited #LionBrothers #KaiAndJabu #LionConservation
