I watched a video on YouTube of a guy taking the timing belt off while the engine was running to show what exactly happens.... It locked the hell up.

serpentine belt came off completely drove for a little bit then all lights came on hazards powersteering windshield wipers stopped working had to drive to autozone it started pouring rain barely pulled into the parking lot and rolled into a spot then the car refused to turn off they were stunned

You say that...but i had a Mazda6 where the serpentine belt snapped, got caught in the crank and smashed open the timing belt cover, then got caught in the timing belt and well..snapped that belt too....

fun fact, my serpentine belt did break my engine. It exploded, the debris went under the crankshaft, squeezed thru the timing belt cover and it changed the timing and the valves hit the pistons🥰✌️

With exemption of N52, N54 and N55 BMW engines, when the serpentine belt fail can be suck inside the engine by the front main seal and clog your oil pick up tube and you know the rest

Volvo 5 cylinder engines enter the chat, serpentine belt can definitely kill your engine. There's a reason why there's tougher and better designed timing covers for them, it's way too well known that serpentine belt gets in your timing belt in those when it breaks.

On the Volvo D5244T a failed auxiliary belt has a 90% chance of wrapping around the timing belt and taking it out too

My timing belt went in my Honda Prelude while I was doing 60 mph through the lincoln tunnel. The engine was toast.

Yeah but if you drive a 3rd gen Chevy cargo van, the pulley can snap off your block and crack your engine…..

Early Volvo D5 engines have 2 serpentine belts one for generator and power steering pump, and the second for AC, the AC compressor fails and the belt snaps instantly breaking the timing cover as it wraps around the timing belt and destroying the engine, if you are lucky you only have to replace the cylinder head, in later models Volvo made a cover so the serpentine belt can't break the timing cover

had that happen down the street from my house, alternator failed and had to drive the last couple blocks without power steering. fixed it though

Change your oil every 5-6K miles timing chain will last 300K miles +
