@funcheta.studio: Someone drove past the whole exit queue to cut in at the front. Who's right? We ran it: two lanes, an exit that lets off 8 cars a minute, 24 runs each way. Everyone waits: the queue takes 8 minutes, and the other lane loses 24 seconds. 1 in 10 cut in: they save 2 and a half minutes, and you lose 27 seconds. But they have to stop in the moving lane, so drivers who aren't even leaving lose nearly a minute and a half. Each cut-in costs everyone else about 13 minutes. 1 in 3: that lane loses almost 5 minutes, and the cutters wait 8, the same as you. A closing lane? Go to the end. An exit? Join the queue. It's a real traffic simulation, and every number comes from the actual runs. So when they stop beside you, would you let them in? 👇 #simulation #traffic #driving #motorway #zippermerge

lampshade :
it depends on which lane I'm in, if I'm in the queue I'm right, but if I'm in the passing lane to cut in I'm also right

this is great if the signage is accurate. Often it's not always clear that far back which lanes are actually turning and which are straight only. Better signage would help a lot of these situations.
