Im Jamaican so I got called fresh off the boat in middle school. Then I would go home and have my relatives speak down on African Americans. There’s so much divide

I love my people, but the bullying is out of control, and we excuse it by saying “roasting is just part of our culture.” I still have social anxiety from being “roasted” pretty much everyday of middle and high school.

Thank you for this bc ppl are literally turning this into a diaspora war instead of focusing on the fact that a little boy was killed by his peers!! That’s not normal!

Born and breed in Alabama. I have a lazy eye and was bullied by other kids in my own community for all my life. Called cock-eyed, was always asked Who you looking at. They talked about my nose. When I moved to another town my purse that had my diary in it was stolen in middle school and read aloud in the gym. I was bullied on the bus daily. I didnt have many friends at first. I was voted "Who's not Who" for Pretty Eyes by senior classmates. Cause alot of insecurities, but that experience did not make me anti-black, it made me stronger and an advocate for others.

I appreciate your perspective so much. This is why I love Abdul El Sayed - he bullies the bullies. Because integrity is something we need to respect & aspire to have always.

Nothing can get done as a collective because why are think pieces being said in place of condolences?

They keep saying they don’t know who did but I think it’s the kids who were suspended for bullying him.

I love that you’re discussing this. We need to be parenting. I think we need classes in school specifically about morals. It has to be taught and brought aware

I'm British Chinese and an immigrant to the US. I bond far better with other immigrants regardless of their origins cause we have gone through so many of the same experiences. ESPECIALLY the bullying/mocking, snide little comments we get from Americans (regardless of their ethnicity, I've gotten those rude comments from Asian Americans too), the expectations from our families, the stress they put on us for fitting in while they work and neglect us, the isolating feeling cause no one really gets us asides from other immigrant children.
It's hard enough being a child in the school system, it's extra hard being an immigrant child and sticking out.

THANK YOU for steering the conversation to the real issue is that it’s a lack of guidance for our youth, especially our young black men. We have to collectively reshape society.

I’ve been not trying to read up so much about this cause it’s painful to watch… they took that man’s boy. The dudes need to be held accountable to the highest degree idc how old they are. People are fully aware of their actions
