The worst part is that it’s not encrypted. Which I’d argue is against HIPAA

As a patient, I see 6 specialists aside from my PCP. Only 2 have the same software. I carry paper copies to all my appointments. Went to a surgical consult, doc says let's look at your scans. They aren't in their portal, and it takes not 1 but 3 2fa codes to get into the next portal. Paused too long on one screen while they are explaining something? Lockout! As much as I worry about discrimination from centralized medical records, I also loathe the current setup.

this is a great indication for socialism. no really. and I hate socialism, but this is an actual good indication for it. there are numerous different companies that currently all have their ups and downs (except meditech. that's all downs). have them all make a pitch to the government to be the government sponsored company - and the government selects the lowest sufficiently effective bid. they likely bid below their current going rate in the open market (making them cheaper) and the government further partially supplements it. now other companies need to either be much better or much cheaper to survive and we mostly have one EMR that has reason to not get too lazy either.

This is why I wish Epic would come up with an Epic version for the smaller practices. I would for a major hospital and we have Epic but also still heavily rely on fax reports from other facilities

e-faxes, everyone needs a frigging e-fax. The amount of records that I have to mail because the faxes don't work, blurred number, cant get the clinic. website with no fax and paper receiving faxes, nothing over 50 pages. - medical records and I feel your pain.

I was VASTLY unprepared for how much time I would spend interacting with faxes in primary care medicine.

The number of times in a day I have to tell someone we didn’t get their fax is astonishing. I keep trying to steer people to email but no one is equipped to do it.

I love getting medical records or forms that are completely illegible. It's somehow gotten worse, despite being around for 40 years.

Literally if all the ehrs could agree to a common portal and method they could just use whatever ehr and gave a common way to access. Common well is attempting but doesn't have enough buy in and epic is a big reason why.

Hi! I just saw one of your videos about ERM on the right eye. I'm 14 and just had the surgery to remove it. Thank you for explaining to me more properly about it, i was so nervous💗

Economist here. If you want to go down a rabbit hole, look up HL/7. It’s the transmission standard for healthcare information, planet-wide. It was created in 1989 and the design principle was to minimize the toll meter for phone calls from AT&T. It still does that beautifully. It’s optimized to send one record at the lowest long-distance telephone call transmission cost at 1989 rates. It’s also good because transmission quality was lower and slower and this accounts for that.

i worked for a place once that started getting patient records faxed to it. i shredded the first one, assuming it was a mistake, but they kept faxing more and more. i finally called them and the lady i got transferred to was so exasperated with the problem because NO ONE could figure out why people weren't getting the faxes. she was mostly just grateful I called and tried to figure it out. (i was tired of confidential documents sitting on a VERY PUBLIC printer.)

We have to fax orders to the hospital 7-8 times to get them to go through and we don’t get any sort of alert if they don’t go through.
