You were taught: Don't be fast. Don't sit like that. Cover yourself. Close your legs. Don't let boys touch you. Don't show too much. Don't talk about sex. Don't ask those questions. Don't let anybody think you're “that kind of girl.” But somewhere between all those warnings... did anybody teach you that your body belonged to YOU? Not your future husband. Not the church. Not the boys looking at you. Not the adults worried about what people might think. Not society. You. Because there's a difference between teaching a girl to protect herself and teaching a girl that her body is something dangerous that constantly needs to be hidden. And some women grew up knowing everything they supposedly shouldn't do with their bodies... while knowing almost nothing about their bodies themselves. Then adulthood arrives and suddenly you're expected to: Communicate what feels comfortable. Set sexual boundaries. Recognize what doesn't. Tell somebody what you enjoy. Say no without guilt. Say yes without shame. Change your mind. Ask questions. Receive affection. Experience intimacy. Know your anatomy. Communicate with medical professionals. And actually be PRESENT inside the same body you spent years learning to monitor from everybody else's perspective. Baby... that's a hell of a transition nobody prepared you for. So now some women aren't experiencing their bodies from the inside. They're watching themselves from the outside. Does my stomach look big? Are my thighs doing too much? Do I look fast? Is this too revealing? What will he think? What will SHE think? What does wanting this say about me? Am I allowed to enjoy this? And that's where shame can become an identity issue. Because eventually: “I was taught this behavior was wrong” can become: “Something about ME is wrong.” That's the shit I want us unpacking. Because having a body doesn't make you dirty. Having questions doesn't make you dirty. Wanting affection doesn't make you dirty. Having sexual desires doesn't automatically tell us anything about your character. And having boundaries doesn't make you difficult. Your body isn't your enemy. And it damn sure isn't public property. So part of identity repair may look like reintroducing yourself to your own body without everybody else's commentary in the fucking room. Learn the actual names of your anatomy. Notice what makes you comfortable and uncomfortable. Learn your boundaries. Learn that consent includes YOU too. Pay attention to what YOU actually want instead of performing what you think somebody else expects. And start questioning inherited shame: “Do I actually believe this about my body… or was I taught to believe it?” Because maybe you don't need to become more confident in your body. Maybe you need to stop experiencing your body primarily through the eyes of everybody who taught you to be ashamed of it. That's identity repair too. Your body has been carrying you your entire life. It's time you finally get to belong in it. And if shame around your body, desires, needs, voice, sexuality or past has been quietly shaping how you see yourself, that's exactly the kind of identity work we're doing inside my 16-week Shame Detox Bootcamp. We're not building a prettier mask. We're separating who you actually are from everything shame taught you to believe about yourself. #IdentityRepair #ShameHealing #BodyShame #SelfWorth #onthisday
