A neighbor’s mom survived the Tulsa race massacre, moved here and he lived through Jim Crow Portland. He has stories of burning crosses and KKK at the Grotto. And says he remembers and doesn’t fuck with the Grotto.

In early October there was a report that a black firefighter was arrested for defending himself against a racist attacker. And all the firefighters he worked with before moving to Oregon told him not to go there cause it was really racist and not safe for him. I believe there is something going around to help with his legal costs to get his sentence appealed.

I’ve spent a significant chunk of my life in Eastern Oregon, and my impression of the state is pretty much the same as my home state of California: it’s a lot more red than it’s made out to be, it’s just the big city/ies that make it a “blue state”(and even then…)

And I really believe they didn’t give a 💩 about the fact that black people were enslaved (that was a lie)…apparently the group of white settlers that moved to Oregon - who in truth, didn’t want slaves bc they didn’t wanna live alongside them…they only packed up for Oregon bc the white farmers in the Midwest (I think it was the Midwest) couldn’t even compare their business to what was being produced by enslaved black/indigenous farmers. They couldn’t “compete” and weren’t making money lol 😌
