*sigh* I honestly hate that it had to happen this way cause frankly, I didn’t choose to end up with this. After 11 years of protecting my curls from heat and growing my hair to waist length & all the things, I finally decided to get a silk press again. It was supposed to be a reset. A way to check in with my hair, the health, and decide if I wanted to grow it back out. Instead, it became the first time in my life I’ve ever experienced heat damage like this. Even when I was a straight natural, my hair NEVER EVER EVER reacted like this. If you know me, you know how much my hair means to me. It’s not just as a form of expression, but it’s part of my livelihood, my identity, and my story as a Black woman. And while I don’t want this experience to feel like a loss, there is grief in it. Grief in seeing my hair react in ways I’ve never seen before. Grief in the fact that this was not my decision. I did speak to the salon about what happened. There were apologies…but chileee that was basically it. At the end of the day, the damage is done and now I’m left to figure out what’s next. The silver lining, if there is one, is that I get to take you with me on the journey back. In real time. From wherever I’m starting (maybe a big chop 🫣). There’s no masking it or skipping ahead to the long healthy hair. Just me, relearning, rebuilding, and reimagining what’s next. Soooo yeaaaa. This was NOT the plan, but this is where we are. I know I’m not the only one who’s ever had to start over. So if you’re here thank you for letting me be vulnerable. Let’s grow together ❤️ #heatdamage #silkpress #naturalhair #type4hair
