My bet is the spirit world merged with the real world along the chakra points and when that happened vatu escaped and what we see with the cataclysm is Kora absorbing vatu anf starting the twin cycle. Hopefully it doesn't lead to the worlds being separated at the end with 1 sister in the spirit world and 1 in the real world.

Pavi is sweet but too passive and by not taking action, she allows harm to come. Nisha is strong but too impulsive, which allows harm to come. And there’s apparently a vitality bending that is talked about in the novels that allows strong benders to elongate their lives by revitalizing their bodies on the cellular level. Def something Kirra would be capable of.

You missed something though. Korra didn't lock Vatuu back up. She purified UnaVatuu, and then refused with Ravaa. Theoretically, that doesn't change too much of your theory though. Vatuu should have been regrowing inside Ravaa when she fused with Korra, so Korra should have been a true avatar of balance
