I was babysitting at 12. I had younger siblings that I took care of. This is not new. And if we can get pregnant and have no choice but to have the baby at that age, I think we are capable of watching younger siblings.

I started watching my siblings around 9 or 10, I started watching other people’s children at 11. I was a full time nanny at 16.

My parents - a doctor and nurse - left me, a 14-year old, in charge of my three younger siblings for A MONTH. They were out of the country! We were totally fine.

What’s crazy is this was done all the time in the past. My parents went on vacations to the Virgin Islands and just left me, starting at 11 years old, and my brother, 13 years old, alone. We had to get up go to school make her own meals, etc. No one even thought twice about it. (to be fair one of my dad’s friends was a police officer that we knew we could call if needed).

This sucks for everyone. I was the 14 yo who was expected to do all this crap. It was REALLY unfair to me and to my siblings bc I was a child unable to handle managing a bunch of other kids. I ended up locking them in their rooms so I could do all the house chores. That's not good for anyone! We need free childcare asap
