Xiaomi could just remove the connected part. Americans are getting tired of the connected stuff, so it has a selling point. Then, have the cell phones of those whom willingly connect the car to it (or a Sim card), restoring the connectivity via third party. Or, release instructions and a disassembled kit, available for purchase.
