@anyi.manchester.u: 🚨 Joe Cole on Morgan Rogers impact at Chelsea and the difference between him and Garnacho: “I watched Morgan Rogers score that goal against United, and I went back to watch how the move actually started. Because sometimes you see a brilliant finish and forget what the player had to do to get there. Lavia is under pressure. He manages to release the ball and ends up on the ground. Now, most players receiving that pass are thinking about keeping possession. Maybe play it sideways, maybe find a teammate, allow everybody to get into position. Morgan Rogers takes one look at what’s in front of him and decides he’s going to score. From there. That’s what impressed me. He doesn’t wait for somebody else to create the opportunity. He looks at the defenders, sees the space, and takes responsibility for what happens next. And that’s something Chelsea have desperately needed. People keep asking me whether the money Chelsea spent on Rogers was too much. I understand why supporters ask that question. Transfer fees have become ridiculous. You see a big number, and naturally you want to know what you’re getting for it. But I’ll tell you what Chelsea have bought. They’ve bought a player who doesn’t need 15 things to go right before he can hurt the opposition. Give him the ball in the right area, and suddenly defenders are running towards their own goal. That’s a nightmare. And I want to make a comparison here because I think it’s important. Look at Alejandro Garnacho. Started his career well but there were times when I’d watch him beat a player, get into a brilliant position, and then the move would just disappear. Wrong decision. Wrong pass. Shot when somebody else was better placed. And you’d sit there thinking, you’ve done the difficult part. Why haven’t you finished the job? That’s the difference I’m seeing with Rogers. He doesn’t just get people excited because he’s running with the ball. He makes the run mean something. Against United, he doesn’t stop after beating the first man. He doesn’t get into the final third and suddenly start wondering what to do. He knows. And when you’re playing against somebody like that, it’s horrible. I remember defenders telling me the players they hated facing weren’t always the ones with the most tricks. It was the ones who made the right decision after beating you. Because if you make a mistake against them, you’re punished. Now imagine you’re a Chelsea supporter. You’ve watched the club spend money, change players, change managers, bring in young talent and ask everybody to be patient. At some point, you don’t want another explanation about potential. You want somebody to win you a football match. That’s what Rogers is giving them. And there’s another thing I like. Look at what happens when he receives the ball. His first thought isn’t, ‘How do I make this look impressive?’ It’s, ‘Where can I hurt them?’ There’s a massive difference. Chelsea didn’t need another player who could produce a beautiful dribble that ends with the opposition goalkeeper taking a goal kick. They needed somebody who could take the responsibility of deciding matches. And that goal against United is the perfect example. Lavia gives him the ball while falling over. There’s no elaborate passing move, no perfect attacking structure, nobody laying the chance on a plate for him. Rogers simply takes the ball and decides he’s had enough of the defenders in front of him. That’s why I wouldn’t spend the whole evening arguing about his price tag. Ask the Chelsea supporters whether they’d rather have the money sitting in the bank or a player who can do that when their team needs a goal. I think I know the answer. You can spend a fortune buying potential. But Chelsea have spent money on somebody who is already turning that potential into results. And in football, that’s what you pay for.” [ This is the source @ChinoUTD ]#chelsea #chelseafc #cfc #creatorsearchinsights #capcut
