Some buildings don't just have history - they have layers. The Ritz in Sea Point has seen some extraordinary chapters: political history, old-school Cape Town glamour, a revolving restaurant, late-night parties, tragedy, years of decline... and now, potentially, a new beginning. What fascinates me most is how completely different the building's worlds have been. One moment it was one of Cape Town's most glamorous addresses. Another, it had become a symbol of everything that had gone wrong around it. And somewhere in between, Nelson Mandela called it home. Now the building has been sold to international luxury hotel group @OKU Hotels, with plans to restore it. I've always believed Cape Town's buildings are more than bricks, concrete and glass. They're time capsules. And sometimes, telling their stories is the best way to understand them. What chapter do you remember from the Ritz?
