Good music, def marketing. Couple tips, find similar artists and collab, find artists of completely different genres that can put a verse on a song - you may have to pay for a few but it’s for exposure, make a cheap music video with friends, build an audience based on who you are outside your music then when people make the connections between liking you and liking your songs it furthers the ‘connection’ they feel to you, even make videos of doing normal things like eating froyo listening to part of your songs and just sing a couple words without explicitly saying it’s your song and finally make playlists that only have a couple of your songs sprinkled throughout. There are a lot of people that can make good music, but to make it indie you have to grind like hell or get lucky. Too much corpo music these days so I hope you succeed
