A sharp-eyed neighbor played a key role in a new development surrounding the disappearance of Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie. According to reports, the neighbor noticed an unusual detail while reviewing aerial images of the 84-year-old’s Tucson, Arizona, home—an observation that led police to search the roof, where investigators later recovered a camera. On Friday, Feb. 6, authorities also reportedly seized a vehicle from Nancy’s property, Fox News reported. The camera discovery was later confirmed by the New York Post. Nancy’s neighbor, Laura Gargano, told CNN that she contacted police after spotting how unusually clean the roof appeared in overhead footage. Gargano questioned whether the roof had recently been recoated, noting that the pristine condition didn’t match recent weather patterns. “You can see how white her roof is in that image,” Gargano said. “We’d had several weeks of rain, so it would be normal for a roof to look at least somewhat dirty afterward.” Gargano explained that her own flat roof—similar in design to Nancy’s—collects dirt easily, making the spotless appearance stand out. While she didn’t claim it proved anything on its own, she felt it was “just one thing worth checking.” The Pima County Sheriff’s Department launched a search for Nancy on Feb. 1, identifying her as a “vulnerable adult.” She was last seen the evening of Saturday, Jan. 31, at her home. Investigators later classified the residence as a crime scene and said Nancy had been taken from her home against her will. Authorities confirmed that blood found inside the home belonged to Nancy. Since then, law enforcement has returned to the property multiple times, including with K-9 units, as the investigation continues. As of the latest update, Nancy Guthrie has not been located.
