I’ve done this with all of my kids + all of the kids I’ve ever nannied and it works great! My older 2 (4&6) are SO well behaved in stores now & my 2 YO is getting better each time. Here are the steps I follow… Go over expectations before we walk in Give them a job. Toddlers want independence and have a very strong drive for autonomy, so use that to gain cooperation instead of punishing them into compliance Keep them involved.

"Hands by your side" instead of "stop touching that." “One finger touch” instead of “stop grabbing everything.” Positively reinforce ANYTHING they do right.
