@griefwithmeghan: When grief gets heavy, the house gets heavy with it. The couch starts to feel like a waiting room. The same four walls hold the same thoughts on a loop, and the kettle has heard all of it. Your body stays at a 9 because nothing around you is giving it a reason to come down. This is the moment to get out the door, even when every part of you wants to stay put. I don’t mean a power walk or a self-improvement project. I mean putting on shoes, possibly mismatched ones, and going somewhere you might be surprised. A hardware store, where someone is very passionate about a specific bolt. A farmers market with a man selling 14 kinds of garlic and strong opinions about all of them. The park bench where pigeons will absolutely start a fight over one cracker. The unexpected interrupts the loop. Your brain has to stop rehearsing the sad thing for a second to take in the absurd thing, and in that second your nervous system gets to breathe. Whimsy works best when you go find it, because it rarely knocks on the door of a heavy house. This is why “Outside” is one of the six pieces of the Grief M.E.N.T.O.R. Method. Fresh air helps, and the bigger gift is that the world is weird and wonderful and will happily remind you, if you show up. So the next time the heaviness settles in, grab your keys. Go look for one surprising thing and bring the story home. Where do you go when you need to get out of your own head? Tell me below. I’m collecting ideas. 🧦 #grief #griefsupport #grieftastic #griefmentormethod #getoutside
