I’ve found a happy medium with hotels with kitchens like Residence Inn by Marriott. It’s the perfect combo of hotel expectations but you can cook too.

I had the audacity to ask for a partial refund for 1 day of my trip due to the air conditioning going out and the host left me a negative review. Mind you this house had roaches and black mold around fixtures that told me the AC issue was ongoing. Last Airbnb stay for me. A hotel would have been a better stay.

I used to love Airbnb and would find some of the most unique places to stay. One of my favorites was in London. I got to rent out the bell tower of an old Gothic cathedral that had been converted into a home. The couple living there were renting out a small room for travelers. Things really took a turn when people started seeing dollar signs and snapping up properties specifically to put online at stupid prices 😒

We stayed in an Airbnb in Mexico. It was an amazing home, the host was amazing and restocked the coffee for us everyday. They did ask us if we could put the trash at the street when we left because it was trash day. However, they did not make it mandatory and just asked us if we weren’t able to do it to just let them know. I had no issue taking the one bag of trash to the street. But the fact that the host didn’t demand it is the only reason why I didn’t have a problem doing it

The last one I stayed at said - 1000$ fine if we don’t take the trash out. I dint even use the trash. Nuts!

I stayed at an airbandb last year in Gatlinburg and it was a total dump, there were instructions and rules for a hot tub on the fridge but no hot tub. It was advertised as the main pull for the joint. The unit was filthy with an ancient glued down rug that was fraying and black with some kind of oil seeping from the edges. The place stunk to high heaven and we couldn’t lock the door from the inside with black bears rifling in the bins outside the front doors. Awful and I will never do it again.

I noticed they started adding and or increasing the cleaning fees during covid and they never went back to how they were before. Hotels get your room cleaned every day and breakfast every morning.

I stayed in a mansion for two months when I moved to another state and was looking for a place to rent. It cost me less than a month of rent and the lady traveled the whole time so it was just her maid and me. THE BEST

Three years ago I switched to VRBO because of AirBnB's nonsense. Now I don't use VRBO either because on my last trip my booking was cancelled at the last minute on a holiday weekend in Paris. No hotel has ever cancelled my booking.

Our favorite host was in Tuscany, the house was insane, the property gorgeous, and they provided a caretaker who had coffee & pastries waiting for us every morning. 🥰

The cameras would be my issue. I wouldn’t feel safe without using one of those things that can find hidden cameras.
