as someone with 3 autoimmune diseases, 2 being systemic, in pain daily for 14 years now, an avid ER hater... I am wondering if potentially some of you have not really felt a 10 on the pain scale. 10 is unbearable, cant sit still, cant think straight, lose your mind kind of pain.

When we ask a pain scale it means the most pain you could ever imagine, 0/10 pain is no pain, 10/10 would be something like actively being eaten by a bear while burning alive and walking across a field of legos.

It's a double edged sword because sometimes if you do scream, they lock you in a room far away from other patients and forget about you. I was dying of sepsis when that happened 🙃

I have a 4.5cm cancer tumor living in the nerve branch in my pelvis. it causes excruciating pain in my left groin/hip/leg and in the lady parts. and multiple types of pain from deep painful pressure to neuropathy pain, to full blown nerve pain. i walk with a slight limp but have to focus on walking as normal as possible because limping not only causes issues in my back ans right side but it also causes the neuropathy pain to go farther and farther down my leg. With slight limp the pain still goes half way down my thigh. I couldnt get my pain under control one night which meant a trip to the ER. 1. to make sure I am not having a diverticulitis flare that is adding to the pain since the pain in the same area and 2. to try to get the pain under control. as soon as they called me to triage the nurse immediately commented on the lack limp and instantly I was drug seeking. ignore the fact that my medical records are full of MRIs and ct scans of said tumor. or that I have palliative care managing my pain. but I was now a drug seeker because my limp isnt defined enough for them.

Being in pain is not an emergency, no matter how severe you consider the pain, it all depends on what is causing it

I had a nurse leave me sitting in a ER waiting room, barely breathing and having chest pains for two hours. My son finally raised his voice and demanded help immediately and stared screaming "MY MOTHER IS SHORT OF BREATH, HAVING CHEST PAINS AND HAS COVID! DO YOU PLAN TO LEAVE HER OUT HERE IN THIS ROOM WITH ALL THESE OTHER PEOPLE?!" A MA finally ran over to me and took my BP and O2 and basically said "OH SHIT!". I had multiple doctors and hospital and hospital admin coming to my room. I had a heart attack, my lungs full of fluid, a severely leaking mitral valve and my heart was enlarged and only working at 25%. I was immediately admitted to ICU.

I have needed the ER several times (Ive been a nurse for 25 years). I didnt go because Im not about to sit for 15 hours just to argue with someone about my pain level or symptoms. If I go it will be on a gurney while they are doing CPR

I had an ulcer. Couldn’t even stand up straight, it hurt so bad. Went to the ER. They asked what my pan level was, I said like an 8 because as a migraine sufferer, I can handle a little pain. They dismissed me as drug seeking. Thanks! 🤬

I have worked 18 years in maintenance in a level one trauma center. I don’t sit in the waiting room long because most of the nurses know me, and know that I would not be there if it wasn’t serious

soo I went in w a thunderclap migraine, felt like my brain was on fire!!! my vision was off, I'm vomiting, I can't think or talk & I'm crying holding my head...when they finally gave me meds & migraine turning into a headache & I can deal w that the Dr comes in & says u seem better now u came in OVER DRAMATICALLY!!! BRUH!?! on my paperwork he put headache...not thunderclap or cluster which cluster I normally get...just headache & bcuz I couldn't talk & needed help to bathroom I'm dramatic...cool!

Exactly! 9.5 hrs Thursday night before I got into an ER room and another 4 hrs today. 🤞🏼 for a different result from Thursday.

I was 16 when I was in a bus accident, got brought to the ER by ambulance. I had severe shoulder pain, but only when I moved it. Obviously I wasn’t waving it around and causing myself severe pain, but I still told them it hurt pretty bad. They gave me Tylenol and discharged me before imaging was read by radiologist. Turns out I had a fractured shoulder blade.
