Greatness isn’t built in the spotlight; it’s forged in the quiet hours when nobody is clapping, watching, or validating your effort

The drizzling rain matched my mood as we entered the cab. It was our anniversary weekend and though things had been rocky, we decided to take this trip as a last ditch effort at peace. We sat in silence as the cab took off speeding down Chicago's Magnificent Mile. I gazed out the window as the reflection of the skycraper lights danced off the wet streets. So many thoughts were racing through my mind. Our first date, our wedding day, the way my knees would get weak during a warm embrace. Never in 100 years would I have thought that I'd entertain the idea of ending our marriage. Ending us. But somewhere along the timeline of having children, paying bills, and pouring into everyone else, I had lost myself. The worst part was that I wondered if my husband even cared. My husband. The man who was so attentive and caring to my grandparents, showing up to wash the feet of my grandfather when he could no longer do it himself. The man who was the perfect caretaker after the birth of each of our children. After all of that, I wondered if he cared that I had lost the sense of who I really was.

The man who was the perfect caretaker after the birth of each of our children. After all of that, I wondered if he cared that I had lost the sense of who I really was. "Of course he cares," my conscience whispered. "But maybe he's lost himself too. If he didn't care, would he even be here?" I closed my eyes and fought back tears in disbelief that we had become so fragmented. So lost. Just as a tear escaped my eyes and rolled down my cheek, I felt his heavy hand on mine. I turned to face him and saw sadness in his eyes. "Baby what are we doing?" He said. "Riding to our hotel in silence like two strangers....us...US? After all we've been through? Let's fix this. Please. I'll do whatever it takes. I mean that." At that moment I knew. Relief washed over me along with the tears streaming down my face. It was going to be hard, and it was going to be messy. But we were going to make it work. Almost on cue the cab driver turned the radio up and Al Green sang to us.... "Let's stay together...loving you whether, whether, times are good or bad, happy or sad...." "Maybe this can be our new song..." I said. A small smile tugged at the corners of his lips. "You mean you want to stay together?" "I do," I replied. He clasped my hand tighter. "Alright then. We're staying together." ❤️ #povstories #blacklove #fyp #beautiful #writersoftiktok #truestory #blackisbeautiful #Love
