SPEECH TO MY MILITARY MEN ON THE IMPORTANCE OF FOLLOWING CAMP RULES AND REGULATIONS Good morning, gentlemen! First and foremost, I want to welcome every one of you and thank you for your commitment, dedication, courage, and willingness to serve. Today, I want to speak to you about something that is fundamental to our profession as military personnel: discipline, obedience, respect, responsibility, and strict adherence to the rules and regulations of our camp. Gentlemen, being a soldier is more than wearing a uniform, carrying out duties, or holding a military rank. Being a soldier means accepting responsibility, demonstrating self-control, respecting authority, and understanding that our actions represent not only ourselves but also our fellow soldiers, our unit, and the institution we serve. The uniform we wear is a symbol of honor, sacrifice, courage, and commitment. Therefore, we must conduct ourselves in a manner that reflects the values and principles associated with that uniform. Every soldier must understand that discipline is not something we practice only when a superior officer is watching. Discipline is a personal commitment that must be demonstrated every day, whether we are on duty or off duty, during training or at rest, and whether we are working individually or as part of a team. 1. THE IMPORTANCE OF FOLLOWING CAMP RULES Gentlemen, the rules and regulations established in this camp are not meaningless instructions created to make our lives difficult. They exist to maintain order, protect the welfare of personnel, promote fairness, and ensure that every individual understands their responsibilities. Every camp has established procedures regarding attendance, inspections, cleanliness, duty assignments, training schedules, movement within designated areas, accommodation, equipment, and general conduct. These procedures must be taken seriously by every member of this unit. No soldier should consider himself too important, too experienced, or too highly ranked to follow established regulations. Rules apply according to the military regulations and responsibilities associated with each person’s position. We must never allow pride, carelessness, or personal feelings to interfere with our professional obligations. When an instruction is given by an authorized superior, every soldier has a responsibility to listen carefully, understand the instruction, and carry it out properly within the law and applicable military regulations. If an instruction is unclear, seek clarification through the appropriate chain of command rather than making assumptions that could create unnecessary problems. Remember this: a disciplined camp begins with disciplined individuals. If every soldier takes personal responsibility for following the rules, the entire unit becomes more organized, reliable, and effective. 2. RESPECT FOR SUPERIOR OFFICERS AND FELLOW SOLDIERS Respect is one of the foundations of military life. Every soldier must understand the importance of respecting superior officers, non-commissioned officers, colleagues, and other authorized personnel. Respect does not mean that we should be afraid to speak. It means that we must communicate professionally, listen carefully, and conduct ourselves with maturity, even when we disagree with someone. We must avoid unnecessary arguments, insults, intimidation, harassment, and disrespectful behavior. Personal disagreements should never be allowed to destroy teamwork or interfere with official responsibilities. At the same time, those in positions of authority must lead by example. Leadership requires fairness, patience, accountability, and the ability to correct mistakes without humiliating others. A good military unit is not built on fear alone. It is built on discipline, mutual respect, trust, competence, and a shared commitment to achieving common goals. #usa🇺🇸 #austin #military
