@raysefah: I’ve struggled to post about this. I’m tired of seeing another young Black life lost and another family left grieving. We post, we share, we feel it deeply. But what happens when everyone moves on? This has touched my heart for so many reasons. My parents were immigrants. I was born in 🇬🇧 , I’m proud of my Ghanaian heritage, and I’ve moved to America myself within the last year. That makes this feel especially close to home. Rest in peace, Javits Frimpong. 🇬🇭 My heart goes out to your father, your family and everyone who loves you. Reposting raises awareness, and GoFundMe campaigns give grieving families much-needed support. Those things matter. But when the attention fades, what happens next? Six months from now, will we be having this same conversation after losing another young Black African boy? After seven years of working with young people, I want to help turn our concern into something that lasts. This comes from love. I know people care but don’t always know where to start. Imagine more of us becoming a consistent, trusted mentor to one young person through a properly safeguarded programme. Especially someone arriving from Africa, finding their feet while their parents are learning a new system too. Someone to help them find a football team, practise English, build confidence or make friends. Someone who keeps showing up. They should feel they belong without having to lose who they are. Here’s just one idea: apps like Hinge and Bumble help adults find connections. Could we use that matching concept to connect families with carefully screened, trained mentors? With parents involved, supervised contact and proper safeguarding. No open access for strangers to contact children. This is an idea, not an existing service. It needs research, expertise and people willing to build it properly together. Web designers, app designers, influencers, athletes, actors, funders, brands, teachers, youth workers and anyone who wants lasting change: my DMs are open. Whether you can offer your time, skills, platform, resources or funding, I’d love to collaborate. Rest peacefully, Javits. 🤍 #javitsfrimpong #bronx #nyc #immigrant #youth Ghana 🇬🇭
