@tina.k.nash: Click here to read ❎ 5 things narcissists do that are actually financial abuse. Financial abuse isn’t always obvious. Sometimes it looks like “help,” control, or simply making you feel like you can’t survive without them. ❎ Make sure to follow for daily reminders. 💗 Comment “30” if you’re ready to break the toxic ties! 1️⃣ Control the money They control the accounts, limit your access, or decide what you’re allowed to spend. Translation: Money becomes a tool for control. 🔥 Truth: Financial dependence can make leaving much harder. 2️⃣ Sabotage your ability to earn They discourage your job, interfere with your work, or make it difficult for you to keep employment. Translation: Your independence threatens their control. 🔥 Truth: Your ability to earn is part of your freedom. 3️⃣ Make you ask for money Even when the money belongs to the household, you have to beg or explain every purchase. Translation: They want you to feel dependent. 🔥 Truth: You shouldn’t have to ask permission for every basic need. 4️⃣ Hide financial information They conceal accounts, debts, spending, or important financial decisions. Translation: Keeping you uninformed keeps you powerless. 🔥 Truth: You have a right to understand your financial situation. 5️⃣ Use money to punish you They withhold money, cancel access, threaten financial consequences, or use your finances against you during conflict. Translation: Money becomes a weapon. 🔥 Truth: Financial control is still control. ❤️🩹 If money is being used to control, punish, isolate, or trap you, don’t dismiss it as “just money.” Recognizing financial abuse can be the first step toward creating options and protecting your independence. I have never been good at managing money. I was given $1000 a paycheck for groceries, household, the kids needs, etc. I tried to keep the balance and when I realized I wasn't, I didn't want to upset her with another problem. I tried to save money and get back on track. over the course of 4 months, I'd overspent by about $500 a month. she saw the card balance and got really mad and I felt awful. she gave me a deadline to pay back $2000 and I did, but not before I'd been thrown out of the house. I felt like a failure.
but when looking back on it, she'd also been spending from that card. and had 3 other cards with high balances I didn't have access to. I didn't even have my own account. a credit card in my name she said I was "too irresponsible to use anymore" paid for a vacation last year and hadn't been paid down like she said it would. I made some bad financial calls, but in reality I was on a short leash and punished for not squeaking by with $500 a week for food, 2 boys, house repairs and necessities, let alone anything else.
