Everyone has plans for retirement, whether it's building houses back home or making investments. But what about the children we are raising today? We need to start prioritising our children's emotional well-being, not just their financial needs. A lot of Ghanaian, African and Black children grow up with a routine of school, home, school, home, with little opportunity for extracurricular activities or social development. We spend hours working, sometimes leaving our children to fend for themselves. Providing financially is important, but children also need our time, attention, guidance and emotional support. You cannot have children and leave them to raise themselves. Investing in their future means investing in their well-being today.

I believe the homes are not for the kids ooo! It’s the parent’s own investment and retirement plans. Even if the kids inherit it and don’t want to live in it, the homes can still benefit the kids as a form of investment if they rent it out or sell it outright. Think wider.
