A Florida mother has been barred from contacting her young son after police say the 5-year-old approached officers for help, claiming she left him alone while she went to Walmart. Britley Louis, 23, was arrested on March 8 after officers with the North Miami Beach Police Department said the child had been left by himself the previous evening. Body camera footage released by authorities shows the boy walking up to officers and telling them his mother had gone to Walmart. When asked if he was alone, he replied that she hadn’t said when she would return. The child also told officers he lived nearby and said he was by himself “because my mommy left me.” According to an arrest affidavit, the boy was outside wearing only a long-sleeved shirt and had no pants or shoes on. He asked police for help and pointed them to the house where he lived. When officers knocked on the door, no one answered. Police later entered through an open door and reported finding unsanitary conditions inside the home. Investigators described signs of hoarding, rotten food residue throughout the house, and spiderwebs in multiple areas. Officers also noted a strong odor coming from the refrigerator. Authorities later identified Louis as the child’s mother, but said she did not initially respond to multiple attempts to reach her. Investigators said she later told a representative from the Florida Department of Children and Families that a friend would pick up the boy, but the friend declined to take custody. The child was ultimately placed in the care of the agency. Police arrested Louis the next day as she was leaving the residence. She faces charges of child neglect and unlawful desertion of a child. After being released from jail, a judge ordered her to have no contact with her son. Her next court appearance is scheduled for April 7.#fyp #viral
