@northspore: Meet the forest’s own jack-o’-lantern! Omphalotus illudens grows in bright orange clusters on stumps and buried roots across eastern North America, and when it’s fresh its gills can glow a faint green in the dark. But this one is a trick, not a treat! Jack-o’-lanterns are poisonous and often mistaken for chanterelles. Look for true, blade-like gills and clusters growing from wood, which chanterelles don’t have. Happy Halloween from North Spore! 🎃 #northspore #halloween #mycology #foragesafely
