Shawna, thank you for bringing this to light. It’s been 19 years since my son was stillborn, and not a day goes by that I don’t carry him in my heart. Nineteen years may have passed, but a mother’s love and grief don’t know time. I still wonder who he would have been, what his voice would have sounded like, and what life would have looked like with him here. The grief never truly leaves us. We simply learn how to carry it while living with a piece of our hearts missing. And yes, the veil feels especially thin tonight. On Día de los Muertos, I find comfort in believing that the distance between this world and the next is a little smaller, and that somehow, my son is close.
