@.slightlyorganized: It’s Jodi Picoult, so I went in expecting a lot. Hollow Bones delivered. Molly lost her mother on 9/11 when she was only two months old. Now she works in emergency preparedness, helping protect other people from the kind of disaster that shaped her life. But that’s only where this story begins. I’d recommend knowing very little else. What stayed with me was how much our understanding of a person can change when we finally hear their side of the story. Picoult explores maternal mental health, religious extremism, abuse, friendship, and the complicated space between understanding someone’s choices and forgiving them. I didn’t need to see my own life in these characters’ experiences to feel for them. The love, fear, anger, and longing were enough. I could connect as a mother, a daughter, a friend, and simply as a person trying to understand other people. Beautifully written and moving. There’s plenty to discuss, but I’d rather you read it first. What’s a book that helped you understand an experience very different from your own? #BookTok #bookreview #read #jodipicoult #bookish
