Sweden Confirms Deportation of About 10 Somalis on Secretly Planned Charter Flight STOCKHOLM, Sweden (Somali Report) - Sweden has deported approximately ten Somali citizens on a chartered aircraft that departed from Stockholm Arlanda Airport during the night, according to Expressen. Swedish newspaper Expressen reported that the operation was planned under tight secrecy, partly because of disruptions in September when a regular flight carrying people scheduled for deportation was due to leave Arlanda. Sweden's Migration Minister, Johan Forssell of the Moderate Party (M), confirmed that deportations to Somalia had taken place. "Deportations to Somalia have been carried out," Forssell said in a comment to Expressen, adding that decisions made by authorities and courts must be enforced as part of the country's regulated immigration system. According to Expressen, some passengers on the charter flight had previously been convicted of crimes. However, the information indicated that their deportation decisions were not based on those convictions, but rather on incorrect information they had provided when arriving in Sweden. Forssell said previous attempts to return people to Somalia had not worked, leaving some individuals whose asylum applications were rejected or who had received deportation orders following criminal convictions in Sweden. He added that ensuring a smooth return process to Somalia had been given particular priority.
