The myth vs reality: Viral videos claiming "0.02 grams or 0.2 grams per card" are 100 to 1,000 times too high . You'd need about 10,000 to 50,000 cards just to get 1 gram of gold. • Value: At current UK gold prices (~£55–£60 per gram), the gold in one debit card is worth roughly 0.001p–0.006p — effectively nothing. So yes — it's real gold, but in such tiny amounts that you'd never notice it, and it's completely uneconomical to try and extract it yourself.
