27-28 September 2026 | Bangkok, Thailand: Severe urban flooding after extreme rainfall Strong, nearly continuous rain caused widespread flooding across Bangkok. More than 330 mm fell in some areas over four days, including nearly 300 mm in less than 48 hours. Flooding affected about 329,000 households, or approximately 700,000 people. Lat Krabang, Bang Kapi, Khan Na Yao, Lak Si, Saphan Sung and Suan Luang were among the hardest-hit districts. Water reached waist level in some areas, inundating roads and residential neighborhoods. Authorities declared an emergency across all 50 districts and continued pumping operations. About 1,500 bedridden residents were evacuated to hospitals, while nearly 7,000 people moved into shelters. Two people reportedly died in Bangkok and at least 10 died nationwide. Drainage in Lat Krabang may take about a week. Follow alerts from Thailand's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and the Thai Meteorological Department. Evacuate immediately when instructed. Move medicines, documents, valuables, vehicles and pets to higher ground, prioritizing children, older people, people with disabilities and patients needing assistance. Never walk, drive or ride through moving or unknown-depth water. Avoid underpasses, drains, canals and submerged roads. If water reaches electrical equipment, switch off the main power only if safe, avoid wet appliances and stay away from fallen power lines. Safety recommendations based on official guidance from Thailand's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) Department of Drainage and Sewerage, and Thai Meteorological Department. Information collected by ALLATRA volunteers. More: allatra org
