js because a religion teaches personal virtues like kindness and selfbcontrol doesn't mean it wasn't shaped to maintain institutional control. in fact patriarchy and religion have always fed off each other. patriarchy needed religion to turn male dominance into 'divine law' so people wouldn't question it, and religion needed the patriarchal state to enforce its rules. wrapping a system of control in morals and discipline is exactly how you make inequality look like 'natural order' so people willingly comply with it. man made systems have always used rules, morality, and discipline to keep order in society, also so that it looks equal to maintain control. cults do that too
