A mother & great-grandmother in Ohio face various criminal charges after allegedly starving 3 young children nearly to d3ath. Hannah Johnson, 26, stands accused of 6 counts of endanger*ng children & 3 counts of kidnap*ng; Dianna Johnson, 72, stands accused of 3 counts of endanger*ng children. The 2 women were arrested at a residence on Halsey Avenue in the Sedamsville neighborhood of Cincinnati earlier this month. The underlying incidents began in April 2016. Several incidents occurred again in June 2017, April 2019 & June of this year. Both defendants were indicted on Sept. 7. Hannah Johnson was arrested a week later. Her paternal grandmother was arrested the next day. The results of the allegedly combined neglect & starvati0n regime at the house on Halsey were the “near-fatalities” of children aged 4, 6 & 7. Police initially arrived at the residence in response to a suspicious door. Someone told the officers the smell was from a d3ad raccoon under the porch. Officers then left without seeing the children. But the sudden appearance of law enforcement seemingly spooked the children’s mother. Hannah Johnson allegedly took all 3 children to her mother’s in Tennessee. The children’s grandmother immediately took stock of the state the trio were in. So, she drove them straight to a hospital. There, medical staff determined the children were severely malnourished. The children will need to spend months in the hospital to recuperate. Each child weighed less than 30 pounds. Police said 1 other child also lived in the house with the mother & great-grandmother but the fourth child was healthy. “Now, those kids never saw the light of day,” a neighbor has stated. “Like, they were, like, ghost white because they’ve never seen sun since they were born.” Another neighbor said the children never spoke or reacted, even when she waved at them, describing them as having “no emotion at all.” Hannah Johnson appeared in court for her arraignment. Her bond was set at 10% of $250,000. She is currently detained in the Hamilton County Detention Center. Dianna Johnson was arraigned & her bond was set at 10% of $30,000. She is no longer in custody. Both defendants have been assigned public defenders.
