@nourishingapothecary: Your prenatal deserves a place in the conversation before the positive pregnancy test. When someone is planning a pregnancy, I like to start preparing around three to six months beforehand. That gives us time to review their diet, identify any deficiencies and choose supplements that suit their needs. One reason timing matters is that early development happens before many women know they’re pregnant. The neural tube, which becomes your baby’s brain and spinal cord, closes very early. Having adequate folate beforehand matters, and folic acid supplementation is recommended before conception to reduce neural tube defects. Already trying or newly pregnant? Start the conversation now. You haven’t missed your chance to support your nutrition. During pregnancy, your requirements continue to change. Iron needs increase as your blood volume expands, while iodine supports your baby’s brain and nervous system development. Then comes postpartum, which deserves its own nutrition plan. Recovery, blood loss at birth, breastfeeding and how well you’re eating all influence what you need. I often review supplementation across the first six to twelve months, rather than automatically stopping everything when the baby arrives. The right product and duration depend on your circumstances. Iodine supplementation, for example, is recommended throughout breastfeeding. In this video, I’m showing Naternal EverNatal and Land Lab Mother Dose, two options I use in practice. They’re alternatives to choose between, rather than products to take together. You can find both in the Nourishing Apothecary store. For individual preconception support, book a free discovery call with Mel or Chloe.
