Let’s talk ear notching! During our March meeting we learned how to read ear notches and had a live demonstration thanks to the Steiner family! Ear notching is an important and necessary way to properly identify pigs. Ear notching is permanent, unlike a tag that may fall out of a pigs ear. The litter number is the pig’s right ear and the individual number is the pig’s left ear. Therefore, when you are looking at the pig head on, you read notches like a book- left to right. Can you tell us what the ear notch reads at the end of the video?
