My son has a friend that was our Fri-Sun kid. I cried every sunday dropping him off, his mom was usually yelling at him before he could get up the stairs. They are 28 now and he still comes for christmas and brought his girlfriend for me to meet. ❤️

I was also a Crystal. I’ve had the same best friend since kindergarten and the kindness her grandparents showed me, I will never forget. Her mamaw would wash our hair while we played barbie’s in the bath. She would iron our school clothes in the mornings I stayed over. She cooked my favorites for dinner even if my bestie hated that food. She would pack an extra lunch EVERY SINGLE day for me. Anytime we were out in a store and my friend got something, I got the exact same. I went to family holidays and vacations. I even had my own drawer for my clothes when I stayed. When I graduated high school, I gave my valedictorian speech and I finally got the opportunity to thank them for their kindness and for being my other grandparents.

My son has this friend right now. Trailer is rotting from under them. Father on dialysis. Poor kid just had his jaw broken by older kids at a park. I’m currently gathering money to get him Christmas gifts

My mom’s house was the spot of all of our friends, it was a place that everyone could be themselves. All my gay friends, all my friends with messed up home lives. They were all accepted and when my mom dropped us off at the mall she would give us all money to go buy something. Even my friends that lived in nicer homes than us that had effed up parents.

I grew up in this run down trailer park. Every year my friends from the park and I would rig our ‘Secret Santa’ for our school cheer team so we would get each other because we all understood we couldn’t get each other nice things like the other girls.

I once walked to a birthday party and had no gift. All our friends brought her cool gifts. I was so ashamed that i was poor and couldn’t get her a gift. Years later I become a mom and set a rule.. Me n dad will buy you a gift that you can open in front of your friends and play with them, but friends are Not allowed to buy you gifts because their gift should be the gift of friendship. So many moms would be so grateful they didn’t have to fork out money they didn’t have for a random kid so much that I explained the reason why to them and for years my children’s friend group followed suit! Healing trauma one birthday at a time ♥️

This is one reason why I will never get mad when my son has friends over and they eat all the food in the pantry. I don’t know their situation at home and I would never ask. Our food is their food when they are at my house.
