@christenpiccioni: To think these beautiful animals once roamed all of North America in numbers over 30 million, only to be hunted down to fewer than 600. Seeing them so often (and admittedly getting annoyed by the traffic they cause sometimes), I think I forget just how incredible their story is. What a reminder of resilience, of how much can come back from so little, and of how magical life really is especially in Yellowstone🫶

Fun fact! There’s an island off the coast of California called Santa Catalina Island. In 1919, Mr. Wrigley Jr. (the gum guy) bought & developed it. In the mid 1920’s, a herd of male bison were transported to the island for a movie. Laws weren’t as strict then, so when production wrapped filming they just left the bison on the island. The herd quickly ran out of food, fresh water, & had no way to reproduce. Mr. Wrigley Jr. brought in female bison, set up reliable freshwater sources, & established a conservancy to provide care. The herd has been going strong for 100 years. This has obviously taken a toll on the island’s ecosystem, as the island is not a bison’s native environment. It’s not sustainable. Sadly in 2025 they announced that they’ve put the bison on birth control to stop breeding, & the herd will be gone within the next 20-30 years.

change my mind but bison are THE keystone species in all of north america

Selene :

Did a report on them at 10, in 1974. Was certain they wouldn’t make it, they were on the verge of extinction. I was so sad about them. This makes my heart just beam. 🥹

They are very well cared for now, each one counted.

I understand why people get so upset at wolves and foxes and coyotes and everything else for killing and eating the babies and stuff but why is a bison baby more important than wolf cubs? people don't stop and think that nature doesn't do what it does because it's evil

hotcheetodust12 :

They spend the rest of their life on edge fighting to survive but for now all they have to worry about is playing😭 im sick

I moved from SD to WV and to learn there are absolutely no Native American tribes in WV and only two small ones in VA…that amount of genocide is heartbreaking
