Mr. Patrick Kiddu, a tutor at Proline Film Academy (PFA), has shared his remarks following the recently concluded On-Location Camera Hands-On Experience Practical Class. During the practical sessions, learners were given the opportunity to move beyond theoretical instruction and directly engage with professional cameras and filmmaking equipment. Each student was tasked with setting up and operating a camera, applying their understanding of exposure, camera settings, lenses, composition and other essential cinematography principles. According to Mr. Kiddu Patrick, practical exposure is a critical component of developing confident and competent filmmakers. The hands-on approach allows learners to make practical decisions, understand how different camera systems work, identify mistakes and learn how to correct them within a real production environment. The session also reinforced PFA’s Project-Based Learning (PBL) philosophy—Learn Something & Do Something—where students are not merely taught about filmmaking but are given opportunities to actually practise the skills they are expected to use in the film industry. At PFA, we believe that true filmmaking skills are built through continuous practice, experimentation and real-world experience.
