This holiday has ancient roots; correct me if I’m wrong but this holiday was celebrated for Mictecacihuatl
Goddess of the underworld (Lady of Death), who watches over the bones, consort to Mictlāntēcutli
Ruler of the Underworld
God of the dead, who rules over the lowest level of Mictlan, watches over the souls; his helper, Xolotl, is used to guide the spirits back to the underworld. But this holiday is used more for Mictecacihuatl. This holiday is a Mexican holiday for those who have Mexican blood and background since this holiday has pre-Hispanic roots. Spanish colonizers started to add “All Saints' Day” and “All Souls’ Day.” Now this holiday blends with indigenous and Catholicism.

We also have this in Venezuela. We go visit our dead at the cemetery and we will take music or mariachis, and also food, flowers etc. Love all these beautiful traditions no matter who’s celebrating it 🥰
