ANOTHER DRY WEEK FOR THE EAST COAST? THE RAIN IS MISSING AGAIN! Take a look at NOAA’s latest five-day precipitation forecast, and one thing immediately stands out: the remarkable lack of rainfall expected across much of the eastern United States! From the Carolinas through the Mid-Atlantic and into portions of the Northeast, very little measurable precipitation is forecast through Saturday, November 1. What makes this especially noteworthy is that much of the region has already experienced a relatively dry stretch over the past week. With another five days of limited rainfall ahead, some communities could approach two consecutive weeks without appreciable precipitation. While extended dry spells certainly happen in autumn, this is a striking pattern for late October, a time when passing cold fronts and developing coastal systems can bring periodic rainfall to the East Coast. Meanwhile, the western United States, Upper Midwest, and especially portions of Texas are forecast to see considerably more precipitation. Parts of Texas could receive several inches of rainfall, with localized flooding concerns. There are exceptions to the dry East Coast pattern, including Florida, where additional heavy showers are possible. For millions of Americans, Halloween week could bring plenty of dry weather, but the longer the pattern continues, the more important it becomes to monitor developing rainfall deficits.
