Her father told NBC News she was the first officer, in the right seat. In 2023 she earned her private pilot's license at 17, before her driver's license, through West Boca Raton High's aviation academy (CBS12). NBC News reports the voice on the recording is hers. The NTSB says it does not yet know whether she was at the controls. THE NTSB BRIEFING (Nov 2): the climb to 37,000 ft was approved. Less than 30 seconds later came a descent and a mayday. About 12:48 pm: "we are in an overspeed condition, descending," and the rest was unintelligible. The crash was about 12:51 pm ET. The NTSB said there is "some indication that the aircraft was breaking up before impact," and parts may be found away from the crater. The debris field is about half a mile by four-tenths of a mile, across ball fields, businesses and homes, and "the debris is rather small." Maintenance records show a cockpit voice recorder was installed, but it isn't known yet whether it was still on board. One man driving away was hurt in the leg. Weather is "a major focus."
