A dealership is facing serious accusations after allegedly convincing a dementia-stricken man to purchase a nearly $70,000 vehicle — a deal his family says he never fully understood. #JohnBenson, 83, purchased a fifth-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo from Scott Evans Jeep in Carrollton, Georgia, after responding to an advertisement. According to his family, sales representatives even visited him at his senior living facility to complete the transaction. However, Benson’s daughter, Alicia Miller, claims her father was suffering from dementia and was not in the mental condition to make such a major financial decision. She noted that he no longer had a driver’s license and was living in assisted care, raising serious concerns about how the sale was allowed to go through. “Fifteen minutes of being around my parents, you would have known something wasn’t right,” Miller told local ABC affiliate WSB. “He wasn’t of sound mind.” Miller also said her stepmother signed paperwork related to the purchase but has no memory of doing so. According to the family, Benson himself never believed he had bought a car. Following Benson’s death in February, his family says they were left with a remaining balance of $69,956.84 and a monthly payment of about $750 — something his surviving wife, who is now in a mental health facility, cannot afford. When the family attempted to dispute the sale, they say the dealership responded by stating it does not discriminate against elderly customers. The dealer reportedly offered to refund just over $3,000 in fees — far less than the roughly $5,000 deposit and full loan payoff the family is seeking. The family is now considering legal action as they push to have the transaction reversed. Scott Evans Jeep has not responded to requests for comment.#fyp #viral
