@hens_and_honeybees_: I get this question a lot across our platforms! How do you ferment chicken feed? Well, I’ve got you covered! I will say, using a feed like one from @Scratch and Peck Feeds always seems to work the best! And yes, my ducks loved this too! #chickens #pnw #farmlife #homesteading #gardening
If you add red pepper flakes they lay more and the yoke is more golden.

this is fine for early spring/fall but in summer they can get sour crop from this, the heat in summer allows it to continue to ferment inside their crop and can 💀 them. i only know because ive seen my mom make that mistake

doesn’t make any sense. They need the calories and calcium which is not changed by adding water

This is a great tip for my feed is amazing. The apple cider vinegar is not necessary and a lot of people are unaware that apple cider vinegar on hot or warm days can actually cause acidosis. This is in both boats and poultry. I can’t speak on other species because I have never needed to research past that, but it is something that I always try to share. Something so well meaning can cause some unintended harm. ❤️

my ladies get this everyday, but in a bigger scale. I only do 24hrs because anytime longer it grows mold.

I'm curious about the actual savings here. A half-gallon Mason jar holds 8 cups, but if you put 3 cups of dry chicken feed in it and add water until it expands to 6 cups, you still only have 3 cups worth of dry feed. The extra volume is mostly water, not additional nutrition. Chickens need calories and nutrients, not just volume. Fermentation might improve digestion or reduce waste, but how much less dry feed are your chickens actually consuming while maintaining the same egg production? That's the math that would prove whether you're saving money.

Hey whats your mix? This mix
Improves gut health with beneficial bacteria. Help nutrient absorption.
Reduce feed waste. Potentially improve egg production. Support digestion and immunity.
Basically, it's a natural probiotic boost for your chooks! 🐔
